One project looked at minitablets for paediatric use. The client had a formulation initially developed for larger tooling and they wanted to assess if the lubrication was appropriate for such a small size or if further development was required. We used their tooling to assess the formulation on the compaction simulator and were able to generate data using a simulated production press profile.
We have purchased a set of 2 mm and 3 mm diameter mini tab punches for our laboratory so we can now offer minitablet assessments. Paediatric medicine is not the only sector that uses small tablets that require bespoke tooling. Small sizes can also be used in adult and veterinary medicine if the dosage needs to be minimal.
Production Parameters for Round & Capsule-Shaped Tablets
Another client had a project with a common granule and wanted to check the production parameters for the round and capsule-shaped tablets. We installed the punches of their commercial design on our compaction simulator and assessed the behaviour of the formulation in the final shapes. The formulation performed well, and we were able to confirm the suitability of the shape for the formulation and suggest initial press settings.
We send photographs of the tablets to illustrate any issues seen and can also ship final tablets for further testing if desired.
