Are the new powders suitable?
We’ve recently been working closely with a new customer in the pharmaceutical industry. The aim was to check the suitability of powders from several new suppliers, due to supply issues with their current main supplier.
We were asked to determine the yield pressure (Heckel test) and run Tabletability tests on the samples sent in by the customer. This helps to see which powder from the different suppliers would work best in their formulation. Tracking differences in the powder compression behaviour from different suppliers can provide useful information to support development decisions. By running these tests, we can save our customers time and money by finding potential new suppliers of the best performing powder.

What did we do to help?
During the project, we generated compactibility and compressibility assessments on the same batch of powder from different suppliers to monitor for changes in compaction behaviour. The results were reported and sent to the formulation scientists. The customer will be looking for what powder they believe has the best characteristics for their formulation. This information can be used to expand their supply chain possibilities.
The project was completed on the hydraulic compaction simulator and was delivered on time, following a brief for a speedy turnaround time.
