Merlin Powder Characterisation is a world class independent laboratory, equipped with the latest technology in compaction science.
Our History
We have over 10 years’ of experience in compaction simulation testing. Our first laboratory was set up in Loughborough in 2011 and was launched to provide the pharmaceutical industry with access to the benefits of compaction simulation for tablet development. Since then, we have expanded and moved laboratories to Brierley Hill in the West Midlands. We now have a small and growing team of scientists and engineers available to help support tablet projects from across the globe.
We specialise in compaction testing of pharmaceutical powders using a hydraulic Compaction Simulator. The simulator can be used to mimic the profile shape and operating settings of any production press using the integrated software profile builder and press profiler.
On the 10th June 2024, Merlin returned to the original ownership of Vicki and Darren Wilkes, with the addition of Elaine Harrop Stone as an owner and Director. The combination of the design and build capability of Darren Wilkes, to design unique accessories needed to deliver the results you need, the depth of experience of Elaine Harrop Stone, backed by the professional team that has been built over the past 12 years.
Our Services
Our services are used for testing and characterising early-stage development formulations, troubleshooting existing formulations for production processes and bespoke testing to generate data to track quality measures/outputs by design/computer modelling projects.
We test, measure and characterise a wide range of powder properties using unique technologies and science of scale techniques to enable a small amount of sample to reliably predict large scale behaviour.
Our staff have vast experience working in the powder characterisation business including carrying out work for major pharmaceutical companies.
